From the Kashf Albas of Shaykh Ibrahim Niasse:

Concerning the sphere of training in the Tijani Spiritual Path.

"Let me say first of all 'Success is achieved with the help of Allah, for He is the Guide by His grace to the straight path'

"The sphere of the Tijani training resolvs around two poles: 1. The perfomance of the five daily prayers in accordance with their preconditions. 2. The invocation of blesing upon the Prophet in the watches of the night and at the ends of the day, with the intention of compliance with the commandment, exaltation, veneration, and loving affection. This comes after the strict observance of the obigatory litany (wird), by which the correctness of your Tijani state is confirmed.

As recorded in al Bughya, the illustrious Shaykh and venerable guide, Abu Mawahib as Sayyid al Arabi ibn as Sa'ih, had this to say on the subject: 'The sphere of training and purification in this noble Muhammadan Spiritual Path of ours is centered on the perfomance o fthe well known basic litany (wird), without which entry into the Path is not permissalbe for anyone, neither among the elite nor among the common folk. The same applies to its adjuncts, meaning the remembrances(adhkar) that are necessarily connected with it: namely the well known daily office(wazifa) and the remembrance of the hailala in the wake of the evening ritual prayer on Fiday.

'In all of that, there must be careful observance of the stipulated conditions and the proper modes of conduct, which are dependent on the utmost excellence and the ultimate perfection. Of all the stipulations, that which is most imperative and most important is careful observance of the five daily prayers with their customary practises, to the extent prescribed for them by the Sacred Law, as far as possible, as well as the perfect fulfillment of their stipulations and their customary practices, and the complete performance of all their basic elements.
Then comes the dedication of the moments and the hours, to the maximum extent possible, to the invocation of blessing upon the Prophet(Allah bless him and give him peace), especially the invocation of the Opener of what was locked (salat al Fatihi li ma ughliq). which is one of the most exalted treasures and the most radiant commodities. This training consists of loving affection, thankfulness, and reliance on the sheer grace which is the only reliable support in the domain of realization, without the neccessity of secluded retreat, a great deal of stenuous exertion, and other methods of training adopted after the earliest period.

This is the spiritual path of our master Shaykh Tijani (may Allah be pleased with him) which he followed, and which he was commanded to follow by the Chieftan of Existence and the fountain of assitance and generosity(Allah bless him and give him peace)

As we are told in Jawahir al Ma'ani : 'The Prophet told our master that he was the mediator between him and Allah (Exalted be He) and one who assisted him, really and truly. He let him know that he was his guardian and his trainer, not any of the other Shaykhs of the Spiritual Path. He also informed him that he owed no favor to any one of them, because everything he received from Allah came with his help (Salallahu alaihi wa Salim) through his mediation from Him to him. Then he told him in the advice he bequethed to him : "You must adhere to this Spiritual Path without seclusion or isolation from people, so that you may attain to your spiritual station which you have been promised, while maintaining your normal state without restraint, without constriction, and without a great deal of strenuous exertion...."

May Allah the Exalted bestow his mercy upon the gnostic sage al Busiri (may Allah be well pleased with him) since he said in a poem of his

Excellence is not achieved by someone who resorts
to narrow abstinence, nor to asceticism
If that is said to be the medication, you must say:
"The antimony of the healthy is unlike the antimony of the sore eyed?"
The active person moves wherever he will, but any other
moves like a stone, with the movement of one who is shackled

Sidi Arabi ben Sa'ih said in al Jawab ash Shafi: " For someone who is driven by force of good fortune to enter this Ahmadi Spiritual Path, and who is attracted by the attraction of providence to embark on the course of the people of this Muhammadan line of succession (silsila), and whom Allah has made fit by His gracious favor to experience this superb peculiarity, and whom He has admitted by His generosity to this mightiest treasure and most splendid store, his only remaining option is to yoke himslef to this sublime teacher. He must set himself at his door and cling to his threshold, by means of loving affection, submission, surrendering his will to him, and accepting his judgment.

He must apply himself with deligent perserverance to his noble Muhammadan litany (wird) with complet observance of its stipulated conditions, and making the utmost effort to keep within it precise limits, so that Allah may permit him to achieve success, while he remains in his normal state without secluded retreat, or strenuous exertion, or conventional spiritual exercises of other kinds. If he perseveres with diligence in the manner described, success will either come upom him suddenly or take him by surprise. Allah will favor him by removing the veil from the eyes of his heart, so he will begin to unite with the spirituality of the Shaykh (may Allah be pleased with him) or with the spirituality of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) and his training will thus be directed by the flow of abundant grace from one of them, or from both of them together.

Such is the grace of Allah, which He gives unto whom He will,
and Allah is All Embracing, All Knowing (5:54)"

As we are informed in Jawahir al Ma'ani: "With regard to the visualization of the form of the Shaykh or the form of the Prophet, a necessary condition is the state of remembering the litany (wird) for someone capable of that (picturing the form of the Shaykh or the Prophet during his zikr). In its explanation of that, he our master Shaykh Tijani spoke at lenght about the spout of Divine mercy. He said that Allah will appoint for him a brother in the Spiritual Path, who will undertake to bear the burdens of his training. Allah will show him the secret of his peculiar character, and remove from between them the veil aof his human nature, so with him he will travel toward Allah(Exalted is He ) in both is private and his public life..........

End of quote from Kashf Albas of Shaykh Ibrahim Niasse
