Both of these sites have great info.

As for excessive speech....there are several hadiths regarding the dangers of excessive talking. Especially the type of "mindless chatter" that we are assaulted with in the media etc.
Also refer to Sura'tul Luqman (just one example) where Allah (swt) compares loud, boastful speech to the braying of a donkey.

I've been a murid under Shaykh Hassan Cisse (may Allah bless & preserve him) for 6 years and He and many of the Most Knowledgable Shaykhs that I've sat with are all men of few words. The words they do speak are always full of wisdom and Nur. This isn't to say that they aren't warm people or don't have a sense of humor. But when they do speak it always has purpose and meaning.

There are brothers and sisters with far more knowledge than me who can advise you as well.
