Assaalmu alaikum,

My name is Talal and I live in the States. I have been interested in the Tijani Tariqa for some time and have done some reading and I'm hoping to purchase brother Zachary Wrights book, insha'allah this week. I am interested in saying the daily wird of the Tariqa and wonder if it is permissable to do until one is received into the Tariqa?

I have belonged to other Tariqas in the past and have been told the full blessings of Wirds do not come to those outside of the Tariqa.

Maybe the more knowledgable sisiters and brothers here can help with some advice?

Jazakhall khairun to all...this forum has been very helpful and my sincere thanks to tijanimureed for the excerpts from Zachary Wrights book...most helpful.

wasalaam,
Talal Mahmoud

Salam Talal. What other tariqas have you been part of? I was trying to gather information on Sufi tariqas. So far, Shadhailiyah and Tijani have seemed very attractive to me.

ASA brother Talal-
Where are you located?
Perhaps I can put you in touch with a Tijani muqadum who can provide you with the proper information.
If you decide to take the Tijani tariqah you would be given a formal initiation and at that time instructed in the wird and wazifah and their rights, conditions and responsibilities.
If you are formally attached to another Tariqah or Shaykh you will have to relieve yourself of those obligations.
As Shaykh Hassan Cisse says "you can only knock on one door at a time"

I'm sure there are other brothers on this forum who are more knowledgable than I who can advise you as well.
In any case...may Allah guide you in all ways.
Your Brother in Islam.

Assaalamu 'alaikum,

Thank you brothers for your kind replies. I have taken bay'ah with Shadhili and Naqshbandi Sheikhs in the past. I have studied with Turkish sheikhs some too. That is all in the past now and I would rather not compare Tariqas or Sheikhs. I understand the conditions and responsibilities one has when one takes bay'ah, though they do sometimes differ from one another. What I find important to maintain for myself are the sources for a legitimate spiritual life , which are the foundations of the Deen( "five pillars"), the Qur'an and the Sunna of the Prophet, may Allah grant him peace and blessing. I am particularly drawn to the Tijani tariqa for a number of reasons, one important to me is the development of true love for the Messenger of Allah, salla lahu alayhi wa sallam. I also believe they the tariqa of Sheikh Ahmad Tijani (R.A.A) will be more effective in purifying my heart and making me a better Muslim and slave of Allah ta'ala.

Again if anyone on the list can help me get in touch with a representative of the Tariqa or help by answering my question in the earlier post I would be grateful. Jazakallh khairun

I live in Arizona..near Tucson.

wasalaam,
Talal

As Salaamu Alaikum Brother Talal-

Insha'Allah I get back to you within a week.

Salaam Alaikum Sidi,

AL Hamdulillah.

As with eveything its all about Izni (Permission or Authorization) Of course one may recite the wird of the Tijaniya or any other Tariqa.

The wird of this Tariqa is Istighfar, Salat ala Nabi with Salal al Fatihi, and La Illaha Illallah.

So you may do any wird and any zikr. But I wounld say if one is not of the tariqa they dont get any rewards or blessing from it. I would rather say:

They dont receive the FULL reward for doing the wird.

Its like a apple tree. Say Allah gives the apple tree as a gift to you. Everything is from Allah and goes back to Allah. But Allah gave the tree to you.

I could come along and take the apple and eat it, because Allah made the earth and made the apple tree with the earth. Yes i can.
But he gave the apple tree to you. It would bethe best in order to receive the pleasure of Allah if I followed the proper ettiquette and asked you for an apple.

With this mannerism I would receive the blessing of Allah, and his good pleasure just from having the proper adaab or etiquette.

It is the same as the wirds of the Shuyukh, leading back to Allah, through the Beloved Prophet. I must honor the proper mode of mannerism in order to receive the FULL reward.

Assalaamu alaikum Sidi Tijanimureed, and the beloved brothers here who have responded to my messages.

Sidi Tijanimureed...jazakhallah khairun. You may claim you are not a sheikh, that may be, but you are providing me and others with so much nourishment here with your writings and excerpts on the Tijaniya Shuyukh. There is a nur that comes through your messages and writings. Alhamdulillah ! ShukrAllah! Allahumma salli ala Sayidinna Muhammad!

I would like to add that I apologize to all here for my poor adab. Where as so many who come to the deen have their hearts opened by Allah ta'ala through their sincerity, I, having no good qualities, delved into fiqh (Maliki) and the "right" way of "doing" Islam, Iman and Ihsan and became a hard-hearted, judgemental and hyper critcal believer.
This finally led to my leaving the practise of the deen for a little while due to disapair and depression ...astaughfrullah inni tubtu alaika.
It has only been recently that I was blessed by Allah ta'ala to take the true and beautiful path of the Deen, through coming to learn more about Shaikh Ahmad al-Tijani, may Allah grant him mercy and preserve his secret. When I read what little literature there is on the Tijani tariqa I feel touched by Allah's light and mercy and I sense a gratitude that I am not always aware of, as well as a growing love for Allah's Messenger, may Allah grant him blessings and peace, that seems more sincere than the mere lip-service that I payed him in the past.

There is much rust and hard-heartedness to be cleared away and the road ahead to a pure and sincere heart is a long one, for me, and I am not in the Tijani Tariqa yet but i am confident that this is the path Allah is guiding me to, insha'allah.

Alhamdulillah I have managed to make contact with a Muqqadam of the Tariqa here in the States and I am preparing myself to offer bay'ah with Sheikh Ahmad Tijani, rahmatullah 'alayhi and start saying the wird.
Any help or advice from the sisters and brothers here for a beginner like me would be appreciated.

Thank you all for "hearing" my post. Please make a du'a for me, and may Allah ta'ala reward all of you as only He can.

Wassalaam,
Talal

Salaam ALaikum Sidi,

All of us are sinners, the best of those who sin are those who seek forgiveness for his sins.

As reported in the hadith.

This way as all ways are founded with the intention of approaching Allah and coming closer to him. We live in a time where spiritual training is something unheard of, strange, and difficult. But with sincerity, dedication, and striving one will come out from the rust that is on the heart. And one will start to increase his love of Allah and His Beloved Prophet.

May Allah guide all of us and keep us guided to what He loves.

Just as Islam is the final and best religion, so Tariqa Tijani is the final and best tariqa. All the spiritual blessings of this world and the next are from our Beloved Prophet SAWS and our Shaykh Ahmad Tijani (RA)is the key that opens the door to His blessings.

If ever you want the countenance, blessings and love of Allah, it is through Tariqa Tijaniyya.

`Ali Harazim informs us in Jawahir Al-Ma`ani that he found a document in the Shaykh’s handwriting containing his supplications to the Prophet (pbuh) regarding salvation, which read:

I beg the favor of our Master, the Messenger of Allah, that he guarantee me admission (as his follower) to Paradise without being brought to any account or undergoing any punishment as the first group; I and all my ancestors male and female from my own parents to my first father and mother within Islam, and all the offspring of my ancestors male and female back to the eleventh generation, from their own days until the death of our Master `Isa (Jesus, peace on him) son of Mariam (peace on her), male or female, young or old.

Also all those who have done me any benefaction in the realm of the senses or of the spirit of an atom’s worth or more, or those who have done me any profit in the material or spiritual realm since I came from my mother’s womb until my death. Also every one of my Masters (Shaykhs) in knowledge, or in the Qur`an, the Zikr, or in the Secrets, provided that they may not have become my enemy, but those who have become my enemies or hated me, shall not.

Also every person who loved me and has not become my enemy and became devoted to me and recognized me as his Master or accepted my Zikr, or visited me, or served me, or he who has done anything I needed or invoked Allah’s blessings on me. All those since I came from my mother’s womb until my death, with their fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, and parents and the parents of their husbands; I have asked the Prophet to guarantee that I and every living person of them die in good faith and as a Muslim. And that Allah make us safe from all His chastisement and punishment, all His awe, dreadfulness and terror, and all evils from death, until we dwell in Heaven.

And to forgive me and all of them, all sins past and future. To fulfill on my and their behalf all that is incumbent on us, and all that is exacted from us and from them from the Treasury of Almighty Allah’s Grace. And not because of our own merits. And that Almighty Allah make me and all of them safe from adjudication, examination, or inquiry in matters small and great in the Day of Resurrection. And I beg Allah to place me and all of them in the shade of His Throne on the Day of Resurrection, and that Allah make me and everyone of the aforementioned, pass on the shoulders of angels over Al-Siratal-Mustaqim faster than the winking of an eye.

And that Allah let me and them drink from the pool of our Master Muhammad on the Day of Resurrection, and that He may admit me and all of them to His Heaven without any judgment or punishment as the first group. And that He may make me and all of them dwell on Heaven in Illiyyun. I ask our Master the Prophet (pbuh), to guarantee for me and for all those whom I have mentioned in this letter all that I have requested for myself and for them. A guarantee that will bring me and all mentioned in this letter, to all that I have sought from Allah for myself and for them.

The Prophet (pbuh) replied (to him) in these blessed words: “All that is in this letter I guarantee you. A guarantee which will not be withheld in your or their respect until you and all of whom you mentioned join me in the uppermost Illiyyun.” (`Ali Harazim says the Shaykh was awake, not asleep when The Prophet, peace be upon him answered.)

I have excluded from this guarantee him who changes to enmity towards me after love and benefaction, for he cannot hope for the forgiveness. I have also requested him (The Prophet, pbuh) that they who are the beneficiaries of this guarantee will die as Muslims. If you persevere in loving us then rejoice in what I have told you, for it will surely come to pass for all those who love us

May Allah give you Allah
