how does one know whether a sufi master is genuine? is there reckognised criteria for example?

also, how does submitting oneself to the guide fit in with the islamic principle of there being no intermediaries between the individual and God?
in other words what is the esoteric explanation of what at first sight might seem to be in contradiction of the exoteric domain?

....as to your question of going to Allah directlyintermediaries between the individual and God?

1st of all the fact you are Muslim is based on Saying Muhammadurasulillah (peace be upon him)

Iman is conditional on that Name Not Allahs that is just the Shadadah!

Every thing is through the Mercy of the Muhammadurasulillah (peace be upon him).

even in the Quran to do Tawbah one has to ask Muhammadurasulillah (peace be upon him).

[Yusuf Ali 4:64] ...... If they had only, when they were unjust to themselves, come unto thee and asked Allah's forgiveness, and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah indeed Oft-returning, Most Merciful.

can you go a uni and learn Business Studies without having any lectures no! you need a Guide some one to teach thats just for Dunya So have about your after life! dont you think one needs a a teacher to guide him or her to the Fastest way to Allah!

that is what tariqah teachers how to get into Jannat and higher without even looking to pass Hellfire 100% inshallah !

its a course if ine goes and applies that course to his or her spiritual life they will Pass with more that a BSc they will have the key jannat in they hands!

and this my dear Haroon can only be done through a Guide for only He can see your Sickness and will Advise you how to cure them!
