It has been authentically related that the prophet peace upon him
have layed down his noble dress for his sister (1) when she visited
him with the envoy if the people of Hawazin - the composer of the
Hamziya (2) referred to this account in his verse:

For her the Mustafa layed down his dress - So great that dress
contained of grace

He also layed down his dress for Dahayata al Kalbi (3) when he came
to submit to Islam Dahiya when cried because of this and lifted the
noble dress kissed it and placed it on his head and eyes.

We can clearly see from this action a sing of glorification to those
the noble dress have been placed down for and since the prophet is an
example for us to be followed the murid should also lay down a
garment honoring the presence (4) of the prophet peace be upon him
for if we were to lay down ourselves and foreheads on the ground
honoring the prophet we would not be blamed.

From the book Kawkab al-Wahaj
Sheikh Ahmed Skeirij

(1) Her name is al-Shayma daughter of al-Harith from the tribe of
Hawazin she was brought to the prophet when her people were brought
prisoners of war due to their unbelief, the prophet peace be upon him
upon recognizing her layed down his garment for her to sit on and
honored her immensely - she was called the sister of the prophet
peace upon him because they suckled the same milk.

(2) The Hamziya is a poem composed by Imam Sa'eed al Buseeri the
author of al-Burdah it is a great poem that is recited completely all
night long in the Zawiya al Kubra in Fes every Mawlid in every year,
it has been narrated that mawlana al Sheikh Ahmed al-Tijani said that
if it wasn't for me overloading my murid I would have made the
recitation of this poem part of the daily wird.

(3) Duhaya al-Kalbi: a great Sahabi who was famous for his beauty he
was the messenger of Rasul Allah peace upon him to the emperor of the
Byzantines Kaiser.

(4) What is meant by the presence of the prophet is after the sixth
time Jawhartul Kamal is recited in the wazifa.
